Your cycling trip begins in Lisieux, the ‘capital’ of the Pays d’Auge. After picking up everything you need for your bike ride, you’ll dive into rural Normandy with its hamlets, farms, orchards, manor houses, half-timbered houses and, of course, cows!

After visiting Cambremer, don’t miss the splendid Pays d’Auge Gardens, where you can stroll through 4 hectares of green spaces. Your cycle tour then takes you to other small villages such as Beaumont-en-Auge, considered one of the most beautiful villages in France. You’ll love its colourful houses, ancient abbey and panoramic views of the Touques valley.

End your cycling holiday by heading to the coast and enjoying one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the English Channel. You can take a detour to Pont l’Evêque, famous for its cheese, before enjoying Deauville and its boardwalk.

DAY 1: From Lisieux to Beuvron-en-Auge

Distance to cover: 40km (25 miles)

We will meet you in Lisieux to deliver your bicycles and answer any last-minute questions you may have.
You will then set off on your tour along small, unusual roads, passing through a number of hamlets and isolated farms before arriving in Cambremer. This village, the ‘capital of the canton’, is well worth a stop. There are three small restaurants and a café to welcome you, as well as an excellent distillery open to the public for tours and tastings. You can also visit the magnificent Pays d’Auge Gardens. Your stopover village is only 40 minutes away by bike. Beuvron is more popular with tourists during the day but becomes very quiet and pleasant again in the late afternoon. Two restaurants and a crêperie should keep you happy for dinner.

DAY 2: From Beuvron-en-Auge to Deauville

Distance to cover: 39km or 50km (24 or 31 miles)

After breakfast, set off to explore other small villages typical of the region. Pass through Beaumont-en-Auge, a small village with colourful half-timbered houses, where you can stop to admire a magnificent view of the Touques valley, have a coffee or even lunch. You will then head towards the coast to finish this magnificent stage. Dotted with stud farms, it leads you to one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the English Channel.

If you are not spending the night in Deauville, one of our team members will meet you at Deauville station with your luggage 15 minutes before your train departs.

Do you need to be fit to go on this cycling break in the Pays d’Auge?

Not at all. This trip is classified as ‘leisurely’, the most accessible level in the Normandie Rando catalogue. The first stage covers 40 km from Lisieux to Beuvron-en-Auge, along quiet country lanes through the Normandy countryside. The second stage is 39 or 50 km (your choice) from Beuvron-en-Auge to Deauville. The terrain is undulating but not difficult, with gentle climbs amongst orchards and pastures. If you can cycle for 2 to 3 hours a day with breaks, this weekend is perfect for you. And if you’d rather not worry about the gradients, an electric bike is available for a supplement of just €40.

What are the highlights of each day?

Day 1: departure from Lisieux with your bikes handed over to you in person by the Normandie Rando team. You’ll immediately find yourself immersed in rural Normandy: small roads lined with hedgerows, hamlets, half-timbered farms, apple orchards and cows in the meadows. Stop off in Cambremer for a coffee, a tour of the distillery (with calvados tasting) and the magnificent Jardins du Pays d’Auge (4 hectares of lush green spaces). Arrival in Beuvron-en-Auge, listed among the most beautiful villages in France, for a night in a charming guesthouse.
Day 2: drive through Beaumont-en-Auge, a village with colourful façades and spectacular views over the Touques valley; option to pass through Pont-l’Évêque (home of the eponymous cheese), then descend towards the coast between stud farms and meadows to end up on the boardwalk at Deauville and one of the Channel’s finest sandy beaches.

What Norman specialities can you sample during this weekend?

This tour takes you through the gastronomic heartland of Normandy. In Cambremer (Day 1), the distillery, which is open to the public, offers a tour and tasting of calvados and cider. How do I get to Lisieux and back from Deauville?

Both towns are very well connected from Paris. Direct train from Paris Saint-Lazare to Lisieux: 1 hour 45 minutes. Direct train from Deauville/Trouville to Paris: approximately 2 hours. You can easily leave Paris in the morning and be on your bike in Lisieux by late morning. If you’re travelling by car, free public parking is available in Lisieux, and a direct Deauville–Lisieux train (25 minutes) allows you to collect your car at the end of the weekend. This short break is perfectly suited to a weekend trip from Paris: leaving on Saturday morning, returning on Sunday evening.

Can we go for a swim when we arrive in Deauville?

Yes, and it’s the highlight of the trip. The Day 2 route takes you straight to the coast, finishing at one of the Channel’s most beautiful sandy beaches. Deauville, with its iconic parasols, boardwalks and beach huts, welcomes you after two days in the Normandy countryside. It’s the perfect contrast between the orchards of the Pays d’Auge and the seaside elegance of the Côte Fleurie. If you’re not staying in Deauville, a member of the Normandie Rando team will be waiting for you at the station with your luggage 15 minutes before your train departs.

If you’re not staying an extra night in Deauville, a member of the team will be waiting for you directly at Deauville/Trouville station with your luggage, 15 minutes before your train departs. You return your bike on the spot and board the train without a worry. The direct Deauville-Paris train takes around 2 hours. If you’d like to enjoy the beach or the centre of Deauville before heading back, an extra night is available on request.
