The route becomes a true maritime adventure on land, where each stage is an invitation to breathe in the salty air and feel the energy of the waves.

Geological discoveries and unusual landscapes

The loop to Perros-Guirec and Ploumanach reveals pink granite formations shaped by centuries of erosion. The rocks sculpted into fantastical shapes and the coastal paths offer a spectacle that is unique in the world, ideal for lovers of unusual landscapes and photography. This bike tour becomes as much a geological exploration as a sporting excursion, where nature and imagination meet at every turn.

Encounters and living traditions

Taking a bike tour means traveling close to the locals and discovering their way of life. As you pass through Breton villages and ports, you will meet artisans, fishermen, and locals who are passionate about their region. Colorful markets, fishing workshops, and artisanal production: each stop offers a glimpse into local life, Breton culture, and skills passed down from generation to generation. These encounters give bike trips a human and authentic dimension.

Serenity, slow tourism, and well-being by bike

Beyond sport and discovery, this tour is a relaxing and rejuvenating break. The quiet back roads, open landscapes and sea air invite you to slow down, enjoy the moment and reconnect with nature. Breaks on the beaches, panoramic sea views and coastal paths make this bike trip a truly wellness-focused experience, ideal for reconnecting with yourself and your surroundings.

Itinerary

DAY 1 : Arrival to Guingamp

Guingamp is one of Brittany’s Cities of Art and History. You will enjoy discovering this as you visit its historic monuments such as the Prison, the Castle, the Plomée, the Basilica, and the half-timbered houses. Over the centuries, the city’s military, religious, and commercial history has given it its authentic character.
Your hotel is located in the center of Guingamp, allowing you to discover all these treasures on foot.

Night in Guigamp.

DAY 2 : From Guingamp to Tréguier

Distance to cover: 44.5 km ( 27,6 miles)

Starting from Guingamp, head north to reach the deep Trieux valley, which you follow to Pontrieux, passing numerous mills spanning the river along the way.
You then leave the Trieux and cross the countryside to reach the Jaudy valley. Follow the river to Tréguier.
Encircled by the Jaudy and Guindy rivers, Tréguier is full of charming narrow streets and small squares, stretching from the port to the top of the hill. Under the protection of the cathedral’s delicate spire, half-timbered houses bear witness to the town’s intense intellectual and artistic influence.

Night in Tréguier.

DAY 3 : Northeast loop

Distance to cover: 48 or 62 km ( 29,8 or 38,5 miles)

Start the day by crossing the Jaudy, then follow it until you reach the Sillon de Talbert, a real geological curiosity that juts out 3 km into a sea dotted with rocks.
Cross the Trieux river and circle the peninsula. On your way, pass through the pretty fishing village of Loguivy de la Mer. Crab, spider crab, lobster… The place is best known for the “bleu de Loguivy,” a true Breton lobster.
The longer option takes you to Paimpol. Narrow streets, small squares, shipowners’ mansions and pretty half-timbered houses from the 15th and 16th centuries bear witness to the region’s past prosperity. Head back towards Tréguier after sampling the “La paimpolaise” oyster, the town’s specialty.

Night in Tréguier.

DAY 4 : From Tréguier to Perros Guirec

Distance to cover: 44,5 km (27,6 miles)

Leave Tréguier via the north, follow the Jaudy river up to Pointe du Château. Continue west along the coast. Keep your swimsuit and towel handy because from Buguélès onwards, the beaches are so beautiful that it’s hard to resist!
You will finally arrive at Perros Guirec, a magnificent seaside resort.

Night in Perros Guirec.

DAY 5 : Western loop

Distance to cover: 35 km (21,7 miles)

First stop of the day: Ploumanac’h and its beaches lined with pink sea lavender !
Continue west to Île Grande with its wild and varied landscapes. A 7 km coastal path will take you around the island in about 2.5 hours. You will discover the dunes of Toul Gwenn, legendary islands, Celtic ruins, and an ornithological station where you can immerse yourself in the wonderful world of seabirds.

FAQ

What level of fitness is required for this cycle tour in the Côtes d’Armor?

The tour is classified as a ‘moderate challenge’, suitable for regular cyclists. The stages range from 35 to 62 km, with a choice of distance on certain days. Day 3 offers a 48 or 62 km loop from Tréguier, and Day 5 a gentle 35 km loop from Perros-Guirec. The terrain is typically Breton: valleys (Trieux, Jaudy, Léguer), gentle slopes and coastal stretches exposed to the wind. Nothing extreme, but enough variation in the terrain to give the route character. An electric bike (€220 for 5 days) is available so you can enjoy the scenery without struggling on the climbs. If you cycle regularly and enjoy varied terrain, this tour is for you.

How does this tour differ from the other Breton holidays in the catalogue?

It is the only holiday in the catalogue entirely dedicated to the Côtes d’Armor and the Pink Granite Coast. The other tours in Brittany (“The Corsairs’ Route” and “Medieval Towns”) start from Saint-Malo and explore the Emerald Coast, the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel and Dinan. Here, you are further west, in a radically different landscape: the pink granite rocks sculpted by erosion at Ploumanac’h (a landscape unique in the world), the wild coves between Tréguier and Perros-Guirec, the Sillon de Talbert jutting 3 km into the sea, the fishing village of Loguivy-de-la-Mer and its lobsters, and Île Grande with its bird sanctuary. This is the wildest, most rugged and most sea-air-filled part of Brittany in the catalogue. If you’ve already visited Saint-Malo and Dinan, this tour takes you to a side of Brittany that most travellers are unaware of.

What are the highlights of each stage?

Day 1: arrival in Guingamp, a City of Art and History with its basilica, castle and half-timbered houses.
Day 2: the deep Trieux valley with its mills, the village of Pontrieux, then the Jaudy valley as far as Tréguier, an episcopal city with its delicate cathedral and charming narrow streets.
Day 3: a spectacular loop towards the Sillon de Talbert (a 3 km geological feature jutting out into the sea), a tour of the Paimpol peninsula with the fishing village of Loguivy-de-la-Mer (Breton lobster), and as an optional extension, Paimpol with its 15th-century narrow streets and ‘La Paimpolaise’ oysters.
Day 4: From Tréguier westwards along the coast, spectacular beaches from Buguélès onwards, arriving in Perros-Guirec, a seaside resort facing the Sept-Îles.
Day 5: Ploumanac’h and its beaches fringed with pink granite (a landscape unique in the world), Île Grande with its dunes, Celtic ruins and bird sanctuary, Breton galette and return to Perros-Guirec for a boat trip to the Sept-Îles or an afternoon on the beach.
Day 6: Lannion, capital of Trégor, then the Léguer Valley in the heart of authentic Brittany with its isolated hamlets, chapels and granite crosses, return to Guingamp. Six days amidst pink granite, wild coves, lobsters and seabirds.

Is the Pink Granite Coast really as spectacular as they say?

It is a geological phenomenon unique in the world, and Day 5 is entirely devoted to it. The pink granite rocks of Ploumanac’h have been sculpted by millions of years of erosion into fantastical shapes: some resemble animals, faces or impossible architectural structures. The colours vary from pale pink to orange-red depending on the light. The beaches bordering these formations are strikingly beautiful, with the pink of the granite, the deep blue of the sea and the green of the seaweed. Île Grande, accessible from Ploumanac’h, adds wild dune landscapes, Celtic ruins and a birdwatching station for observing seabirds. It is the sort of landscape you won’t see anywhere else, and one that only cycling allows you to experience at a leisurely pace.

The route starts and ends in Guingamp: what’s the advantage?

It’s a loop route, which eliminates any logistical worries about getting back. You set off from Guingamp on Day 2 and return there on Day 6. If you’re travelling by car, it’ll be waiting for you in Guingamp. If you’re travelling by train, you’ll depart from the same station. What’s more, the itinerary includes two loops from base camps (2 nights in Tréguier on Days 2–3, 2 nights in Perros-Guirec on Days 4–5), meaning you only unpack your bags four times in total. This is the most flexible format in the Brittany catalogue: some days are loops where you can adjust your distance, and others are short linear stages that leave time for sightseeing and the beach.

Can we go swimming during the trip?

Yes, and the opportunities are exceptional. From Day 4 onwards, the route follows the north coast, with spectacular beaches starting from Buguélès. The guide recommends keeping your swimsuit and towel to hand, as the beaches are so beautiful it’s hard to resist. Perros-Guirec (Days 4 and 5) is a seaside resort with beaches accessible directly from your hotel. And the pink granite beaches of Ploumanac’h on Day 5 offer a swimming setting that is unique in the world. As the stages are short (35 km on Day 5), you’ll always have free time to enjoy the sea.

What Breton specialities can you try along the way?

This tour takes you through the gastronomic heart of the Côtes d’Armor. On Day 3, the fishing village of Loguivy-de-la-Mer is renowned for its Breton lobster (the famous ‘bleu de Loguivy’), its edible crabs, spider crabs and rock lobsters. On the extended route to Paimpol, you can sample “La Paimpolaise” oysters at the harbour. Breton galettes and crêpes accompany you at every stage. Breton cider and seafood are everywhere. And the colourful markets of Tréguier, Perros-Guirec and Lannion offer local produce at every stop. The page explicitly mentions a “delicious galette” on Île Grande after the Day 5 loop. Every day on this tour is also a culinary adventure.

How do the luggage and guiding logistics work?

Normandie Rando transfers your luggage between each stage during the 5 days of cycling. The loop format simplifies logistics: the first and last transfers are to Guingamp, and on the loop days (Days 3 and 5), you set off from and return to the same hotel without any luggage transfers. A comprehensive route book with mapped routes, GPX tracks and a mobile navigation app guide you from stage to stage. Each hire bike comes with a helmet, a full repair kit, lights and a lock.

How to get to Guingamp?

Guingamp is accessible by direct TGV from Paris Montparnasse in around 2 hours 45 minutes, with several daily departures. Your hotel is in the city centre, close to the station. If you’re travelling by car, free long-stay parking is available next to the station. The loop format means you depart from Guingamp: same station, same car park, no return transfer required. It’s logistically very straightforward.

What does the €730 per person price for the Standard package include?

The price includes 6 nights in hotels with breakfasts featuring fresh, local produce, luggage transfer between each stage, a comprehensive roadbook with mapped routes and detailed advice, GPX tracks, access to the mobile navigation app and personalised explanations of the route. Calculated per night, this works out at around €122 per person all-inclusive: accommodation, breakfast, luggage logistics, guiding and assistance. For a 7-day loop tour covering the Pink Granite Coast, Tréguier, Paimpol, Perros-Guirec and Île Grande, with the convenience of returning to the starting point, this offers remarkable value for money.

What is the difference between the Standard package at €730 and the Comfort package at €995?

The Standard package offers 2-star family-run hotels with a warm welcome: the Hôtel de l’Arrivée in Guingamp, Le Rest’à Flots in Tréguier and the Hôtel de Perros in Perros-Guirec. The Comfort package upgrades to 3- and 4-star hotels: La Demeure in Guingamp, the Hôtel Aigue Marine in Tréguier (4 stars) and the Hôtel Ker Mor in Perros-Guirec. The €265 difference is spread over 6 nights, amounting to approximately €44 more per night. As you spend 2 nights in Tréguier and 2 nights in Perros-Guirec, the upgrade is particularly noticeable at these two base camps, with spacious rooms, high-quality bedding and additional services that transform the break between two days of cycling into a truly comfortable experience.

Can we take a boat trip to the Sept-Îles from Perros-Guirec?

Yes, this is an option mentioned on Day 5. After the 35 km loop to Ploumanac’h and Île Grande, you’ll have time in the late afternoon to enjoy Perros-Guirec. Shuttles to the Sept-Îles archipelago depart from the port and offer a unique opportunity to spot northern gannets, puffins and grey seals. It’s the perfect complement to the Île Grande bird observatory, which you’ll visit on the same day. Day 5 is the shortest of the tour (35 km), specifically to allow time to enjoy these marine activities.

Are there any discounts available?

For groups of 4 or more, a discount of €50 per person applies. If you prefer to carry your own luggage, a discount of €120 per person is available (cannot be combined with the group discount). Departures are available every day, offering maximum flexibility. The high season runs from 1 July to 30 September (supplement of €30 to €60 depending on the package). Bike hire is available at €150 (hybrid) or €220 (e-bike) for 5 days, with delivery and collection included.

When is the best time to explore the Côtes d’Armor by bike?

The holiday is available from April to November, with daily departures. Spring (April–May) offers gorse in bloom on the cliffs, magnificent light on the pink granite and very few visitors to this still-off-the-beaten-track coastline. Summer allows you to make the most of swimming in the coves and at Perros-Guirec. Autumn dresses the Trieux and Léguer valleys in spectacular colours, with exceptional sunsets over the pink granite. The Pink Granite Coast is a landscape that changes radically depending on the season and the light: each time of year offers a different and memorable experience.

How do I book this circular tour in the Côtes d’Armor?

Fill in a quote request directly on the holiday page. The Normandie Rando team will get back to you to personalise your tour: choice of accommodation package, type of bike (hybrid or e-bike), departure dates and any optional extras (extra night in Perros-Guirec, boat trip to the Sept-Îles, etc.). You can also call 02 31 65 74 08 for a personalised consultation. The quote request is free and non-binding. It’s the first step towards a week of pink granite, secret coves and Breton lobsters, in a wild part of Brittany that most travellers have yet to discover.
