Normandy landscapes

Founded by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, Caen has preserved its remarkable heritage with its medieval castle, the Abbaye aux Hommes and the Abbaye aux Dames. Scarred by the Second World War but rebuilt with vigour, the city now offers a green and welcoming setting, perfect for a family holiday. Children particularly enjoy visiting the castle, exploring the Memorial, and discovering the parks and lively quays in the city centre.

Leaving Caen, you follow the Orne Canal to the Bénouville Bridge – Pegasus Bridge – which you cross. This was one of the most strategic points of the landings and was liberated by a commando unit of British paratroopers very early in the night of 6 June.

Short itinerary:
You then pass through Ranville, the first French village to be liberated. You then head back up towards the coast via Merville. The German battery that was built there is still in very good condition and is well worth a visit. You end the day by following the coastline to finally arrive at the seaside resort of Cabourg.

Long route:
Take a drive along the country roads, enjoy the typical landscapes and buildings, and discover the picturesque atmosphere of Normandy as you stroll through the village of Beuvron en Auge, one of the most beautiful villages in France.

Today, you are only a few kilometres away from your destination.
Head east to reach the small seaside town of Houlgate. Continue your journey across the Pays d’Auge plateau, which rises to around 100 metres and drops down to the sea in the form of a cliff known as Les Vaches Noires. You will then arrive at Villers-sur-Mer.
If you feel like it, take the time to go for a short walk in the Blonville-Villers marsh, an area of great ecological richness.
You then follow a lovely cycle path that will take you to Tourgéville before arriving at your destination: the legendary town of Deauville, considered one of the most attractive towns in Normandy with its casino, luxury hotels, listed villas, racecourses, marinas, golf courses and nightclubs.
Continue on to neighbouring Trouville, which owes its charm to its authenticity and fishing port, and enjoy a pleasant night at your hotel.

You will pass through Beaumont-en-Auge, a typical village offering beautiful views of the surrounding valley, before continuing on to Pont-l’Évêque, known for its old town centre, half-timbered houses and lake. This crossing provides a pleasant break and an opportunity to explore a lively market town.
The hike then continues towards Lisieux, through a quieter, more rural environment. Your arrival in the town marks the end of your trip, with the opportunity to visit the Basilica of Saint Thérèse, an iconic site in the region.
