Bike tour itinerary : Normandy Discovery

  • D1
  • Arrival in Bayeux
    • You must find some time to visit the famous tapestry, the cathedral, and the commonwealth war museum, which are allocated in the centre of the town, as well as the wonderfully preserved old part of the town. Being the allies headquarter soon after the landing, Bayeux has not been bombed and is extremely well preserved.

  • D2
  • Bayeux to Bayeux
  • 55km / 70km / Bed & Breakfast
    • From Bayeux and the commonwealth memorial, we head north-west until Omaha beach and the American war cemetery of Colleville-sur-Mer. Before returning Bayeux, you can make a stopover at the typical fishing village of Port-en-Bessin. A longer option takes you to the "Pointe du Hoc" near Grandcamp-Maisy.

  • D3
  • Bayeux to Caen
  • 45 km / 60 km / Bed & Breakfast
    • Following the narrow Aure Valley, you soon reach the coast at Longues-sur-Mer to the main German Battery right on the cliff of Gold beach. It will be a short downhill to the famous artificial harbour of Arromanches. Juno Beach and The Canadian Museum right on the beach is at short distance. Courseulles-sur-Mer is a great place for sea food.

In the afternoon, from the Canadian war cemetery of Reviers you follow the little Mue valley until the Village of Fontaine-Henry and its chateau. From there you ride south to reach the city of Caen.

Dinner at hotel is included in the comfort option.

  • D4
  • Caen to Beuvron-en-Auge
  • 45km / 60km / 81km / Bed & Breakfast
    • Follow the Orne river to Bénouville. Cross the river at Pegasus Bridge and soon get to Ranville, the first liberated town in France. Then, you ride towards the coast and the last site of D-Day: the Merville battery! For some extra kms, you can follow the coast to the holiday resort of Cabourg for lunch.

After that, you cycle eastward to hit the first slopes of the Pays d’Auge plateau. After a short stroll in the market town of Troarn, you will cross the Marsh of the Dives River and will get to the exquisite village of Beuvron-en-Auge.

  • D5
  • Beuvron-en-Auge to Honfleur
  • 48km / 70km / Bed & Breakfast
    • You shall find opportunities to sample cider and Calvados….along the way.

The morning ride is through the prettiest Normandy post card with rolling hills, apple orchards and local spotted cows. You cycle to the awesome village of Beaumont-en-Auge which will make the perfect stop over with a great local restaurant.

In the afternoon, go on cycling north until you gat to the beautiful port of Honfleur, your hotel is right on the Harbour and hopefully you will have time to explore.

Honfleur is an historic small city situated on the south bank of the estuary of the Seine river. It was a strategic port before becoming an important trading harbour in the 16th century. During the 17th century, Honfleur was the starting point for many navigators for the new world; Brazil, New-land, Quebec… From that rich past, almost everything is preserved: Churches, old port, bell-tower, ware-houses, 4 and 5 hundred years old buildings, cobblestone narrow streets...  A real treasure!

  • D6
  • Honfleur - Bec Hellouin
  • 51km / Half-board
    • You follow the Seine Estuary to the east and get to an area known for its thatch roof. The longer option takes you into the natural parc of the “Vernier Marsh”.

You progress inland on a quiet country road along the Risle River until the pretty town of Pont-d'Audemer where a break is well worth for lunch but also to discover the architecture and the numbers of little canals. You continue along the Risle valley before you reach the old village of Le Bec Hellouin and its well-maintained 12th century abbey. Open to the public "free entrance", still run by monks, you will have the opportunity to visit one of the great Abbeys in Normandy.

  • D7
  • Bec Hellouin to Rouen
  • 51 km / Bed & Breakfast
    • This last ride is short enough to allow you time to visit Rouen in the afternoon.

The morning ride is a mixture of wealthy farming land and woods to get to the market town of Bourg-Achard. From there, a 4kms downhill takes you to the Seine River bed and the little town of la Bouille from where you will cross the large and famous Seine River on one of the barges. There is a free shuttle service run by the local council. You approach the big city of Rouen on a very quiet road following the Seine River.

Your hotel is perfectly located in the heart of the city.
