Food & Wine

3 dinners

From April to October

High Season: September

  • Description
  • This Burgundy Discovery bike tour goes from the heart of the Bourgogne area right to the southern edge of the region. Between the regional capital Dijon and the southern town of Macon. The transition is gradual but in the end the contrast of this bike tour is really striking.
Of course you are going to go through the greatest vineyards in the Bourgogne area and there really are plenty of them!
The distances are relatively short so that you have time to appreciate how rich the area is. Enhance the discovery of Burgundy with a slightly longer trip suggested for each day which is a bit more up and down.

  • Cote d’Or (gold coast) and Beaujolais, premier wine-growing regions of France
  • Beaune old town and history
  • Dijon, capital of the Duchy of Burgundy
  • Speciality foods: Kir, Eggs poached in red wine sauce, Beef casserole, Pancake with orange and liqueur, Dijon mustard, Snails cooked in garlic and parsley butter…
  • Bike quiet roads of Burgundy and visit picturesque villages

Bike tour itinerary : Burgundy Discovery

  • D1
  • Arrival in Dijon
    • Your hotel is in the centre of Dijon which you will be able to explore at your leisure. However we suggest visiting the historical center on foot.

Well known for its mustard Dijon, the capital of the Dukes of Bourgogne, is also the high spot for gastronomy.

  • D2
  • Dijon to Beaune
  • 48km /
    • Now that you have had a good night sleep you are ready to set off South. You will go through the the vintage wine area of Bourgogne spotting the enchanting names. This wine route is a pleasure for the eye and for the biker.

Nuits St Georges for lunch before reaching the Cotes de Beaune and ending the trip with Aloxe Corton.

  • D3
  • Beaune to Beaune
  • 35km / 70km /
    • There is a lot to see in Beaune. The absolute least one can do is to visit the famous hospices. For those that want a bike trip we suggest a round trip in the hills arriving at the pretty village of St Romain and a rather longer one which takes you to Châteauneuf and the Bourgogne canal.

  • D4
  • Beaune to Chassey/Rully
  • 35km / 55km /
    • If you need a bit of extra time in Beaune, it should be possible to do so in the morning. After going through the villages of the Cotes de Beaune (to be alive) and its vintage Chardonnay, you will reach the Central canal which winds its way along the fracture in the limestone plain.

You will then spend the night either in the village of Rully or at Chassey le Champ.

  • D5
  • Chassey/Rully to Cluny
  • 68km /
    • The course is very varied today . You will go from grassland to vineyards and from vineyards to oak woods. Gently hilly areas, these Chalonnais hills are not as well known as the Côte d'Or but nevertheless are of interest. Notably the village of Buxy which gives you the chance to stop off. Then you will leave the vineyards to cross the Saône plain till you get to Cluny..

Your hotel is on the outskirts of what used to be the Abbey of Cluny: the symbol of the monastic revival in the West during the Middle Ages.

  • D6
  • Cluny to Creches: Macon
  • 35km /
    • This stage is short enough to allow you time to admire the ruins and the village of Cluny. Between Cluny and Macon , you are reaching the historical limits of the Bourgogne. The land is hilly. You will go by the feudal castle of Berzé-le-Châtel, Lamartine's village and the archeological site at Solutré. Pouilly-fuissé, the famous Mâconnais vineyard will bring to an end you trip for today.

  • D7
  • Macon to Macon
  • 40km / 65km /
    • You can choose how many kilometers you want to do.

The day is to be devoted to the Beaujolais vineyards and its villages. For those who question it , this is the chance to prove to oneself that the Beaujolais wines are all but insignificant. You will have lots of opportunities to taste the wines in the villages of St-Amor, Julienas, Fleurie, Morgon... We offer you the choice of more kilometers and extra ups and downs in the hills lying over to the west.

  • D8
  • Departure from Mâcon after breakfast
