Hiking trip details : Le Périgord Noir

Located in the Dordogne valley, the Périgord Noir is at the crossroads of major tourist sites from prehistoric and medieval times. Thanks to its natural, cultural, architectural, historical and gastronomic heritage, it is a destination of choice for history and gastronomy lovers, artists and sportsmen. Normandie Rando offers you a walking tour in the Périgord Noir.

An unforgettable week at the heart of the Périgord Noir

Your walking tour starts in the medieval town of Sarlat. Take a day to visit the wonders of this old walled town before heading through the forest to the Dordogne Valley and on to Monfort. Afterwards, you will visit some spectacular hilltop villages starting with Domme where you can see the castles of Castelnaud and Millandes, then Beynac and Les Eyzies.

The next day, you will cross the Dordogne valley to the Vézère river valley to discover decorated caves dating from the Upper Palaeolithic, the castle of Tayac and other archaeological sites. The next day, you will visit small villages typical of the Dordogne. Don't forget to have a good picnic to enjoy your gastronomic walk in the Périgord Noir.

You will finish your walk in Montignac, a village that is home to the famous Lascaux cave. You can visit the replica before taking a short canoe trip to Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère.
