Bike tour itinerary : Vineyards and Abbeys

  • D1
  • Arriving Beaune
  • Bed & Breakfast
    • Beaune is a renowned city for the wines of Bourgogne and also for its historical past.. In fact the old Gaul sanctuary which then came under the Romans, was also the residence of the Dukes of Bourgogne until the X1V th century! The heart of the town is surrounded by remparts built in the XV th century where one can visit the entire place on foot. The famous hospices, the wine museum and the old cellars are not to be missed.
And we won''t forget to advise on where to find the best restaurants and wine bars in the town.

  • D2
  • Beaune to Beaune
  • 50km / 70km / Half-board
    • The first ride is a loop from Beaune to the Abbey of Citeaux. From the Abbey, the route takes you through the best Pinot noir vineyards of Burgundy. Chambolle-Musigny and Nuits-Saint-Georges among some of them

  • D3
  • Beaune to Rully/Chassey le Camp
  • 35km / 55km / Half-board
    • Today's ride is fairly short and easy through Chardonnay land giving you plenty of time forwine tasting. The villages of Pommard, Meursault and Santenay will be the best introduction to the Province and good options for lunch. Then you join the Canal du Centre to get to Rully in the Côtes Chalonaises

  • D4
  • Chassey/Rully to Buxy
  • 32km / Bed & Breakfast
    • You carry on south through the Côtes Chalonnaises. The village of Mercurey produces one of the best examples of this pinot noir appellation. The route is a bit more rolling with a succession of hamlets, creeks, woods and of course vineyards.
You are staying in the refine guest house located right in the centre of the little market town of Buxy

  • D5
  • Buxy Cluny Buxy
  • 40km / 75km / Bed & Breakfast
    • The optional ride from Buxy is a loop south to the great Abbey of Cluny. As yesterday, the itinerary goes through numbers of villages, gallo-roman ruins, lovely and varied country side.
After a good break in Cluny to visit one of the prestigious abbey in France you can cycle back to Buxy by the cycle path which is traffic free.

  • D6
  • Buxy to Nolay
  • 42km / Bed & Breakfast
    • You ride north-west to the country town of Couches after crossing the canal du centre. This itinerary is definitly a good contrast from the wine making land. In fact, you will be crossing a land a cattle farms, oak woods and isolated farms. This ends in the small town of Nolay and your hotel faces the XVIth century covered market

  • D7
  • Nolay to Beaune
  • 30km / 58km / Half-board
    • The ride from Nolay goes up to Bligny sur Ouche and down to the canal of Burgundy at Pont d’Ouche. After riding along that peacefull canal using the old tow-path, we cycle back toBeaune. The 15kms is a smooth downhill through lovely forest then the great vineyard ofAloxe Corton.
