  • Few decades older than Claude Monet, Eugene Boudin was a great source of inspiration for the world famous painter who established himself in Giverny where we will finish our tour.

There is a great museum of Eugene Boudin, native from Honfleur, and this should be the best introduction to impressionist painting.

Rouen museum, Giverny and Claude Monet’s house and garden will be the consecration!

At the question, “Why so many great impressionists were Normans or established themselves in this province?”

We say, “You will understand after completing this tour

If you are interested by a pre-night in Honfleur we suggest a "warm-up" loop to the coastal towns of Trouville & Deauville!

Bike tour itinerary : Impressionist Seine Valley

  • D1
  • Arriving Honfleur
  • Bed & Breakfast
    • Your hotel is right on the Harbour and hopefully you will have time to explore.

Honfleur is a Gem and brimming with art and history, on the south bank of the estuary of the Seine river. First  a strategic port, it became an important trading harbour in the XVIth. During the XVIIth century, Honfleur was the starting point for many navigators for the new world; Brazil, Newfoundland, Quebec… From that rich past, almost everything is preserved; Churches, old port, bell-tower, ware-houses, 4 and 5 hundred years old buildings, cobblestone streets far too small for cars…. A real treasure.

  • D2
  • Honfleur to Brionne
  • 58km / Half-board
    • From the coast, you get to the pretty town of Pont-Audemer, ideal for a lunch break. Then you follow the narrow valley of the Risle river till the village of Le Bec-Hellouin and its

well-maintained XII century abbey.  Open to the public "free entrance", still run by monks you will have the opportunity to visit one of the great Abbeys in Normandy.

Your hotel is located in Brionne near from the village of Le Bec Helloin.

  • D3
  • Brionne to Rouen
  • 62km / Bed & Breakfast
    • Cycling north through woodland you eventually ride down to the Seine River at the village of La Bouille. From there you will cross the large River on one the barges. This is a free shuttle service run by the local council. The great thing about it is that makes the other side of the Seine River almost traffic free! The ride along the River all the way to Rouen center is a delight. From your hotel you can visit all sites on foot.

  • D4
  • Rouen to Pont-de l'Arche
  • 35km / Bed & Breakfast
    • The ride is short enough to let you all of the morning to visit Rouen's treasures. Rouen is the largest city in the province and the historical capital. Luckily, it's been mostly saved from WWII bombing.

You will start with a hill to leave Rouen and the Seine Valley ridding North-East. You will soon find quiet country road through farming land and woods before heading south to the town of Pont de l'Arche on the Seine River

  • D5
  • Pont de l'Arche to Vernon
  • 55km / 65km / Bed & Breakfast
    • The navigation today is reduced to a minimum…for more pleasure. You will follow the Seine river up-stream almost the whole day and there is nothing boring there. The river winds a lot and you will cross it a couple of time.

Again, your hotel in Vernon for the next 2 nights is right in the center of town.

  • D6
  • Vernon loop via Giverny
  • 30km / 45km / Bed & Breakfast
    • The High light today is Claude Monet’s gardens

To avoid most of the crowed, you should visit the gardens either first thing in the morning or at lunch time from 12.30! It is very easy as your hotel is only 6km away. After that, you can choose how much you want to ride from Giverny back to Vernon.

You will be riding along the Seine Valley into "Île de France" or Greater Paris and come back along the small Epte River.

  • D7
  • Trip ends in Vernon after breakfast
