Bike tour itinerary : Normandy Walking Tour

  • D1
  • Arrival in Honfleur
    • Your hotel is right on the Harbour and hopefully you will have time to explore

Honfleur is a Gem and brimming with art and history, on the south bank of the estuary of the Seine river.

Honfleur was a strategic port before becoming an important trading harbour in the XVIth. During the XVIIth century, it was the starting point for many navigators for the new world; Brazil, Newfoundland, Quebec… From that rich past, almost everything is preserved; Churches, old port, bell-tower, ware-houses, 4 and 5 hundred years old buildings, cobblestone streets far too small for cars…. A real treasure!

  • D2
  • Honfleur to Honfleur
    • Our walk takes you through the historical part of Honfleur. You will discover around every corner buildings dating back from the 100 years’ war to the early 19th century. The architecture is quite unique as all sort of building material has been used: oak wood, flint, thatch, slates, tiles, bricks, limestone, clay….The streets are so tiny that often cars can’t go through giving more atmosphere.

You leave Honfleur and reach the old Chapel Notre-Dame  giving you the best view over the Seine Estuary.  You walk across the Breuil Wood before going down the village of Pennedepie. There you can treat yourself with a complete tasting of Cider and apple brandy. The walk takes you to the pretty village of Barneville la Bertran before returning Honfleur. You shall find opportunities to sample cider and Calvados.

  • D3
  • Honfleur to Beuvron
    • This morning we pick-you up after breakfast and drop you in the village of Beaumont-en-Auge. 20 mn drive. From there you start your walk going deeply in and through the Pays d’Auge. You go west through the villages of Bourgeauville and Saint-Pierre des Ifs before heading south to arrive Beuvron-en-Auge.

  • D4
  • Beuvron to Beuvron
    • We suggest a loop to the village of Cambremer. This little town is the heart of the “route du Cidre” where cheese and cider makers defend the traditions and offer the best quality products you can think of in term of apples and cheese. You will find opportunities to visit and sample cider and calvados in and around Cambremer. There are also a couple of places for a nice lunch

Before returning Beuvron, you walk down the plateau and have the chance to visit the superb chateau of Crêvecoeur-en-Auge.

  • D5
  • Beuvron to Port-en-Bessin
    • You start the day with 1hour private transfer to the Caen plain and the landing beaches. According to how much you want to walk we will drop you off in a village between the town of Creully and Arromanches-les-bains. You start the walk towards Gold beach and soon get the best view from the cliff over the artificial harbour (Mulberry) of Arromanches. You will definitely spend 2 or 3 hours (Museum, beach, lunch….) before walking west and reach the German Battery of Longues-sur-mer. A few more kms and you get to the fishing harbour of Port-en-Bessin

  • D6
  • Port-en-Bessin to Port-en-Bessin
    • You walk west to get to Colleville-sur-Mer. After a very emotional walk through the American cemetery and time spent in the new visitor centre you walk down the cliff to Omaha beach and Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer exactly the way up that American troops climbed up!

You can return back to Port-en Bessin using the same way or walk the beach most of the way!

  • D7
  • Port-en-Bessin to Bayeux
    • You leave the coast, reach the little Aure Valley then walk south to Tour-en-Bessin. You will see some stunning old granite manors & farm houses showing you how prosperous part of Normandy the Bessin is. You eventually walk westward through the village of Barbeville before arriving to the former allies haedquarter through the commonwealth war memorial. The great cathedral will then be your land mark to find your hotel right in the centre of the extremely well preserved city of Bayeux
